Teachers everywhere are trying to figure out how to make artificial intelligence work for them in the classroom. Thankfully, Khan Academy has introduced Khanmigo, a free, AI-powered teaching assistant designed to support educators with lesson planning, student engagement, and differentiated instruction.
Built specifically for classroom use, Khanmigo helps teachers generate quizzes, create real-world connections, and even integrate game-based learning like Blooket to make learning more interactive. With Khanmigo’s seamless integration with Khan Academy’s standards-aligned content, covering both Common Core and state-specific standards, it’s quickly becoming a favorite among educators looking to save time and enhance their teaching.
Emily Wilde, a seasoned secondary math teacher from San Angelo, Texas, shares her experience using Khanmigo in her classroom. With 12 years of teaching under her belt, Wilde highlights how this innovative tool has helped her meet diverse student needs, plan for new courses, and answer kids’ age-old question: “When am I ever going to use this?” Here’s her Teacher Picks review.
Whether I’m assigning practice problems for the Distributive Property or letting students use it as a test review, I know Khan Academy’s content is accurate, student friendly, and standards aligned.
I use Khan Academy to supplement learning by having students join my Classroom, assigning certain videos and lessons, and even sending them on their own individualized paths. Now I can use Khanmigo to take it a step further! I can have a quiz written about the videos I had students watch or turn it into a Blooket. I can get lesson intros or exit tickets. It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders when it comes to lesson planning.
Khanmigo is like the teaching assistant you don’t have the budget for. Khan Academy’s free tool helps teachers plan every aspect of a lesson. From hooks and connections to the real world, to step-by-step agendas, and even exit tickets, Khanmigo saves teachers time so they can actually TEACH.

Does Khanmigo align with curriculum standards?
Khan Academy lessons are aligned to TEKS, which I use in my Texas classroom, as well as Common Core standards and other state-specific standards. Khanmigo pulls from those standards.

How do you use Khanmigo in your classroom?
We LOVE Blooket in my classroom! So I love that I can search for any topic or find a great video on Khan Academy and have Khanmigo create editable questions for a Blooket instantly. It opens seamlessly in Blooket’s website when we’re ready to play.
It’s so handy to have the “Make It Relevant” and the “Real-World Context Generator” when my students ask “when are we ever going to use this?” Students learn better when they can connect it to real life, so these are a favorite in our classroom.
Khan Academy is a tool I use to help students when they require reteach. There is only one of me, and there are so many needs to meet in my classroom. I know that when a student needs remediation, they will get a solid lesson from Khan Academy.

How did your students react to Khanmigo?
They said, “OK, that’s low-key cool,” after showing them how solving an equation is like keeping the weight equal on both sides of the bar when lifting weights.
How easy was it to use and implement in your classroom?
Khanmigo is organized in a very user-friendly way. I’m so glad there are so many choices laid out for teachers to see because otherwise we wouldn’t know what to ask for! It’s like you don’t know what you don’t know. Khanmigo helped me realize all the ways I can utilize AI in my classroom.

Khanmigo was created with education in mind. More-broad AI tools must be trained in order to be helpful to teachers, but Khan Academy has taken care of that for us and fine-tuned the technology.
How will Khanmigo save you time and make teaching easier?

I found out just a few weeks before the school year starts that I’ll be teaching a new course. I’m using Khanmigo to help me plan my first several lessons so I don’t start the school year feeling behind already.
How would you sum up your overall experience with Khanmigo?
AI is here to stay, and I’m so glad Khan Academy is leading the charge and helping teachers use it to make our jobs easier. My goal is to continuously work to become a better teacher, and I feel like Khan Academy and Khanmigo help me to meet that goal.
How do you plan to use Khanmigo again in the future?
This year, I plan to use Khan Academy videos and lessons to pre-teach certain lessons where I know students struggle, like in factoring quadratics. I’m going to use Khanmigo to help me differentiate certain lessons for those students who need more scaffolding and for those who need to go a little bit deeper.
