The debate over whether schools should allow AI in classrooms is over — students are already using it, and the data proves it. According to recent College Board findings, 84% of high school students are now using generative AI for schoolwork, a reality that this week’s guest Carl Hooker says schools can no longer ignore.
Despite widespread student adoption, schools remain divided on how to respond. While 85% of administrators recognize value in teaching students to use AI tools, and 55% of schools no longer block them on networks, many institutions still restrict access — often at teachers’ request.
Carl attributes this resistance to fear and tradition. “Traditional lecture-based information disseminated learning needed to die decades ago, but we’re still holding on,” he says. He notes that teachers who initially approach his presentations with “arms folded, their lips pursed” often become converts by the end, realizing they need to teach students the right way to use AI rather than ban it entirely.
