National Mathematics Day: A Joyful Celebration of Numbers and Numeracy

Every year on December 22nd, India celebrates National Mathematics Day, which commemorates the birth anniversary of the legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. More than just a tribute, this day has become an opportunity for schools across the country to spark curiosity, reduce fear, and make math an enjoyable subject for students.

At Azim Premji School in Chhattisgarh, India, this spirit was vividly seen during the Baal Shodh Mela (Children’s Research Fair), where students from Grades 3–10 displayed creative projects guided by their teachers. Here, a specially designed Mathematics Day corner became a hub of excitement. Students, often hesitant about the subject, eagerly engaged with puzzles, games, and creative challenges, proving that when math is made fun, it quickly sheds its image of being difficult or dull.
