In November, a carefully selected panel of experienced educators and educational experts will select instructional materials for California’s 2026 English Language Arts/English Language Development (ELA/ELD) Follow-Up Adoption, largely the result of the state’s alignment to Science of Reading guidelines, like many other states.
For the first time, the state adoption includes materials for Transitional Kindergarten and partial programs for strands—Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language.
The adoption has attracted a record number of submissions from publishers big and small, and the California State Board of Education is welcoming input from more experts, reviewers, and other interested parties than ever before. The submissions should also be of interest to readers outside of California, as state literacy
standards converge.
